Gouache is the perfect medium to create colorful and dynamic paintings. Join award-winning artist, Takeyce Walter for an enriching online mini workshop where we delve into capturing the vibrant colors of the autumn landscape using gouache.


Class Description

Over the course of our 2-hour session, Takeyce will guide you through her painting technique, illuminating how to craft captivating, light-infused gouache artworks.

Lessons will center around essential topics such as composition, design fundamentals, color theory, and harmony. Additionally, we’ll explore the nuances of aerial and atmospheric perspective, examining how they influence various elements within the Autumn landscape. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned artist, this workshop promises to deepen your understanding and proficiency in gouache painting.


About the Medium

Gouache, or opaque watercolor, is a water-based paint consisting of natural pigment, water, a binding agent, and sometimes additional inert material. Gouache has a considerable history, having been used for at least twelve centuries.


Materials Needed

  • Gouache paints in primary colors plus white
  • Watercolor paper (choose below based on preference:)
    140lb cold-pressed (more textured – Takeyce uses this paper)
    140lb hot-pressed (more smooth)
  • Small cup for water
  • Paintbrushes (not soft watercolor types)
  • Paper towels
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

About the Instructor

Takeyce Walter is an award winning contemporary American painter (born Jamaica) and art instructor, living and working in upstate New York. Driven to create from an early age, Walter has been producing art for as long as she can remember. Most recently, her focus has been on the natural landscape of her surroundings in the Northeast, particularly, the Adriondacks. Working with oil paint, pastels, and gouache, Walter creates paintings that present the landscape in all its glory – flowing rivers, majestic skies, and picturesque lakes. There is a great sense of familiarity, tranquility, and reverence in each piece. Takeyce has been sharing her art making knowledge as an art instructor for almost 10 years. She is a generous instructor who is invested in the growth of her students’ skills.In 2014 Walter started Creative February, a daily creative project that has since inspired artists all over the world to create art each daily during the month of February. The inspiration and camaraderie gained from this project extended far beyond than twenty-eight days.Walter exhibits her work in regional galleries in the Northeast. The paintings have found homes in many private collections across the country and internationally, including local museum and healthcare collections.
