Class Description

Join us for an afternoon packed with laughs, learning, and of course, a splash of color! This acrylic painting class with Ingrid Van Slyke will be based on Rockwell Kent’s painting, Moonlight, Winter (1940). The class will be encouraged to go in different directions with color.

The first 15-20 minutes of the class will be a discussion about the painting, Rockwell Kent, and art around the mid 1900s. Students will then be guided step-by-step on how to create their own “Moonlight” painting. Students should bring an apron, or wear clothing they can get paint on.

Ingrid has exhibited her work in international and national group exhibitions throughout the country including New York, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Illinois, as well as a solo show, For the Love of Boats. Her work has been juried into the highly prestigious Pastel Society of America Enduring Brilliance exhibitions held at the National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York City. She has been a guest speaker for the National Association of Women Artists’ “Arts in Conversation” series. Ingrid teaches soft pastel painting to individuals and groups and has been a guest teacher at the New York State Art Teacher’s Summer Institute at The Great Camp Sagamore in Upstate NY. She is a dedicated high school visual arts teacher at Northwood School and her work is currently represented at Gallery 46 in Lake Placid, NY. Ingrid lives with her family in Lake Placid, NY and finds inspiration for her landscape paintings from the beautiful natural environment of the Adirondacks.
