Cold Read: The Importance of Being Earnest

Before the Saturday screening of National Theatre Live’s “effervescent, exuberant” production, join us Thursday for a community reading of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest!

No rehearsal and no experience necessary! British accents optional! Join us for this fun opportunity to bring a character to life when we read the play aloud, or sit back and listen while your friends and neighbors explore a witty web of mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and clever deceptions.

9 adult roles available. A digital copy of the script will be made available ahead of the reading.

After familiarizing yourself with the script on Thursday, enjoy a joyful and flamboyant reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy Saturday on the LPCA screen! Participants will be offered $5 discounted tickets to the Saturday, March 22 screening starring Sharon D Clarke and Ncuti Gatwa.

Please email Tyler at [email protected] to RSVP and express interest! Interested in reading a specific role? Let us know in advance! Otherwise, roles will be assigned at random to anyone who wishes to participate.

What’s a Cold Read? Typically, a cold read is when an actor is asked to perform a script with little-to-no preparation. Sometimes used in the audition process, a cold read calls upon the actor’s spontaneity and ability to grasp material swiftly. However, LPCA’s Cold Reads are casual, pressure-free and open to all!

Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
