Back by popular demand! Fondly named after the original Salon des Refusés held in 1863 Paris, this one-night pop-up exhibit in Saranac Lake is a counterpoint to the Metamorphosis Juried Art Show in the Gallery @ LPCA in Lake Placid.
The original Paris Salon was held at the Palace of Industry exhibition hall – which bears a striking resemblance to the facade of Hotel Saranac – and was meant to assuage artist protests while allowing the public to make their own judgements of works that were not selected for the “main” exhibit. The 1863 Refusés featured works by such esteemed artists as Manet, Whistler, and Cézanne!
We believe all art has value. By displaying the pieces that did not happen to fit within the jurors’ curatorial vision for our Annual Themed Juried Art Show, we recognize and celebrate each artist’s significant contribution to North Country culture and community.
