Creative Movement is an introduction to basics using methods designed for young imaginative minds and bodies. Students are given the opportunity to move, stretch, and improve self-confidence while being introduced to basic ballet concepts, body alignment, posture, locomotor skills, as well as developing self-expression through movement.

About the Instsructor

Kelly McCarty is a multi-hyphenate artist. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Western Carolina University and is currently getting their masters in Mental Health Counseling specializing in Child & Adolescence at Northwestern University. They began training in dance during high school and eventually went on to choreograph featured performances with her peers in undergrad. She has served as a dance captain, dance tutor, and choreographer throughout the years in her musical theater career. They have trained in Movement to Music, a therapeutic movement style, with Dustin Whitehead at WCU. Kelly spent the last 5 years in NYC as a youth running coach for children with trauma, a rock climbing coach for ages 5-18 at The Cliffs in Harlem and Movement Climbing Gym Harlem, and as a choreographer, director, and music director with Brooklyn Acting Lab’s youth programs.

Dance is a pure form of freedom and is meant to be experienced with pure joy and flow of emotions. Mental health is extremely important in movement teaching, especially with youth.
