Class Description

Discover the art of four-harness loom weaving in this fun hands-on fiber arts course! Learn to weave colorful patterned textiles and create take-home projects such as table runners, pillows, tapestries and placemats. Students will learn the basic principles of weaving, understanding yarn types, creating patterns, and weaving techniques. This course is ideal for individuals who are new to weaving or those seeking to refine their skills in a supportive and creative environment.


Timeline

Day 1

Tuesday, March 3 4-6 pm
• Introduction to table loom weaving (naming loom parts and other weaving vocabulary).
• Choose weft colors and patterns and learn how to plan and draft your weaving project(s).
• Start weaving in filler (tabby stich).
• Learn how to read weaving directions.
• Start weaving on your table loom.

Open studio time for independent weaving.

Wednesday-Monday, March 4-9
• Continue weaving. Have fun!

Day 2

Tuesday, March 10 4-6 pm
• Learn how to end your weaving, add filler, and cut your weaving off the loom.
• Tie knots, sew/hem projects.

Katie Weaver is an experienced weaver and talented artist who has been teaching fiber arts for 30 years at North Country School, Northwood School, and around the ADKs. She is a Lake Placid native and enjoys sharing her weaving knowledge with the community.
