4-Week Kids Clay Class: Clay Sea Creatures with Morin Bissonette

Class Description

Come learn the basics of hand building with clay! Students will have fun learning to create 2 sea creatures out of clay that they can bring home with them!

Skills Learned:

• pinch pot techniques
• texture through stamping and pressing
• slip and scoring


Class Timeline

Day 1
Friday, February 6

Students will make pinch pot fish by making a pinch pot and attaching fins, eyes, etc.


Day 2
Friday, February 13

Using outlines of fish, crabs, sharks, etc. to trace, students will create slab sea creatures that hang on the wall. Then they’ll add texture to their creature using stamps, beads, shells, and more!


Day 3
Friday, February 20

Students will glaze their first pinch pot projects using underglaze.


Day 4
Friday, February 27

Students will glaze their second slab project using glazes.


Final pieces will be available for pick up starting March 5. ALL pieces must be picked up by March 19.

About the Instructor

Ceramist and Sculptor, Morin Bissonette, grew up in Lake Placid where she fell in love with many types of art such as dance, ceramics, and generally creating. As it happens Morin’s first time taking a ceramic class was right at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts making her position at the Arts Center very full circle. Morin went on to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts at SUNY Plattsburgh where she concentrated in ceramics and sculpture. Her work focuses on the process of creating and bringing one back to their inner child. Furthermore she enjoys experimenting with different methods and mediums.
