Ages Parent/Guardian and Child (Ages 13 and Under)
Experience Level All

10-11:30 am
Saturday, July 25
Saturday, August 1

Class Description

Spend creative time together in the studio while learning the basics of hand-building! Designed for pairs of one adult and one child (age 13 and under), this two-part class is a hands-on introduction to working with clay and glazing.

Over the course of two sessions, each duo will create and decorate a slab-built cup or mug from start to finish. No prior experience needed—just a willingness to get a little messy and make something together!

Class Timeline

Day 1
Saturday, July 25

Pairs will work together with the instructor to construct a slab-built cup or mug. Morin will guide participants through shaping and assembly while ensuring pieces are set to dry properly between sessions.

Between sessions, Morin will manage the drying and kiln-firing process to ensure each piece is ready for glazing and completion!

Day 2
Saturday, August 1

Return to paint and glaze your fired piece! If a child is too young to paint, hand or footprint impressions can be added as a keepsake detail. Morin will handle glazing and final firing.

About the Instructor

Ceramist and Sculptor, Morin Bissonette, grew up in Lake Placid where she fell in love with many types of art such as dance, ceramics, and generally creating. As it happens Morin’s first time taking a ceramic class was right at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts making her position at the Arts Center very full circle. Morin went on to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts at SUNY Plattsburgh where she concentrated in ceramics and sculpture. Her work focuses on the process of creating and bringing one back to their inner child. Furthermore she enjoys experimenting with different methods and mediums.
