Overshot Weaving with Susan Sebring

Ages 18+
Experience Level Beginners and above who are comfortable reading and following a weaving draft

Class Description

Overshot is a derivative of twill that provides an astounding variety of patterning on just four shafts. It was a very common weave in colonial times for the home weaver who usually possessed a four-harness loom. Many traditional drafts have been passed down and are still in use today.

In this four-week course, students will learn to design, draft, and weave an Overshot project—such as a wall hanging, table runner, or a piece of their choosing.

Students are welcome to use the Loom Room to work on their projects during the four weeks.

About the Instructor

Susan Sebring first took a weaving class as an elective in college and quickly became hooked and spent all her free time in the weaving studio. Soon after college she bought a floor loom and continued to weave at home. Overshot became one of the first weaving disciplines that she embraced, much to the enrichment of her friends, who now own Overshot coverlets, wall hangings, and table runners.
