Northern New York is a haven for birds, where forest, wetland, and mountain habitats converge along major migratory flyways, making the region a vital stopover each year. Its diverse landscapes—many protected through ongoing conservation efforts—support both year-round avian residents and seasonal visitors. The Art of Flight: Birds of Northern New York invitational exhibition brings together artists from the region and beyond to celebrate the vibrant bird life of Northern New York.
Each artist is invited to interpret, through their chosen medium, up to two of the more than 200 bird species native to the area’s mountains, forests, and waterways—from familiar year-round residents to elusive migrants passing through with the seasons. Together, the works form a visual chorus that reflects the diversity and quiet magic that wings through the wilds of Northern New York.
Offering a different kind of birdwatching experience, the exhibition invites patrons to become birders themselves, transforming the gallery into an observation site and encouraging exploration of the dialogue between art and ecology.
For a genuine birding experience check out the Northern New York Audubon’s Great Adirondack Birding Celebration May 29, 30, and 31, 2026!
