MaryLou Brown was born and raised in Iowa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and English from Beloit College, and a master’s in counseling and statistics from St Lawrence University. She began her career as a Systems Analyst with IBM in Poughkeepsie, where she met her husband Doug.
She was teaching computer science at Clarkson University in Potsdam when the opportunity arose to join the Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee as Director of Technology. The family moved to Lake Placid in 1978 and have maintained a home here ever since. Following the Games, MaryLou founded a database marketing services company. Professional obligations required relocation to the Albany area for several years, where she directed marketing technology for Key Bank and later Scripps Howard Publishing.
In 1998, MaryLou returned to Lake Placid as the founder and President of MLB Associates, an executive search firm focused exclusively on positions of strategic influence in multi-channel marketing and analytics. Clients include prominent global software/hardware corporations, major financial service institutions, many marketing agencies and service providers, as well as privately held specialty companies. She thinks about retiring … sometime.
MaryLou has served on the Lake Placid Center for the Arts board of directors (active and advisory) since 2004 and held the office of Vice President. She chaired the LPCA’s first strategic planning committee and co-chaired the search committee for the current Director.
She joined the Lake Placid Olympic Museum board in 2008 and has served as Treasurer, Secretary and President. She has been an active volunteer for many community and sports activities. She enjoys skiing, golf and tennis.
MaryLou and her husband Doug have two children and two grandchildren.
